Growing Numbers on Infertility

More often than not, couples who are having infertility troubles feel that it’s a battle they need to combat alone. Looking at other couples with babies make the suffering seem more unbearable as they feel cursed and damned for not being normal in that sense. What they seem to forget because of this depression is that they’re not the only ones going through this kind of problem. In fact, infertility problem is an issue that affects a lot of couples worldwide.

pregnant Growing Numbers on InfertilityIn the US alone, more than 7 million women, all between the age bracket of 15 to 44, suffer from an inability to conceive. Most of the time, these women stricken with this kind of impairment only get to find out their incapacity when they choose to build families. There may be some of these women who are able to conceive but is not able to continue with the pregnancy because their pregnancy is accompanied by other problems like polycystic ovarian syndrome which was only detected when they had kids. The most often scenario is not being fertile enough to conceive.

With that huge desire to be able to take part in this somewhat miraculous endeavor of life, couples suffering from infertility problems even go through fertility treatments in efforts to right their imbalance. For a couple who is unable to have their own children, it is very painful to see the joys of others – something they feel they could not achieve on their own. What they don’t know is that some of these people who are able to bear children also go through infertility treatments in order to conceive.

In a study performed in 2002, it was found that 11.9% of women between the age of 15 to 44 have undergone infertility services. About 6.1% sought professional advice, 5.5% received treatments in order to prevent miscarriages. Quite a number have underwent fertility tests and was prescribed ovulation drugs in order to right their hormonal imbalance. There are also a few who has gone through artificial insemination just to be able to conceive. Not all these women found to have infertility problems suffer from the previously mentioned hormonal imbalances alone. There are also about 11.8% of women who were found to be able to conceive but could not carry their babies to term.

It is a proven fact that as women grow ancient, the possibility of becoming pregnant lessens because their ability to produce eggs decreases. More women between the ages of 35 to 39 have gone to receive infertility services because of this problem. That makes up about 15.2% of the total number of women found to have infertility issues. The number decreases as the woman’s age lessens.

But, it doesn’t mean that when there are problems of getting or maintaining a pregnancy, it follows that conception is impossible. There are a lot of women who give birth even at age 31 using vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. Some women have also been found to be able to carry a pregnancy to full term aided by an egg donor.
